I am sitting at the pharmacy right now using the internet (they let me use their wifi.)  Anyway when I was walking in the door a little bit ago a man asks me.  "Do you own a Eagle?"  At first I didn't know what he was talking about then I was like.
"I own a AMC Eagle."  He then tells me that he is jealous, and he wish he hadn't sold his.  He said he bought his brand new in '83.

And last week I was in White City in my Psychology class and I was talking to one of the ladies in my class.  She asked me what kind of car I drove and when I said that "I have an Eagle."  She was like.   "Oh my god, I had one of those when I was 16.  My dad bought it for me new.  It was red.  I gave it to my sister when she turned sixteen and she drove it into a tree."

And at the gym the other day,  I was leaving and standing inside the door grabbing my keys out of my gym bag when I heard a woman say "What the is that."  I look up to see her pointing out my Eagle to one of her friends.

I usually get the last reaction you did.
That and mothers diverting their childs attention away from it.

Or consoling them if they happen to park by it and the childs door is facing it.

Heck hearing the comments we all hear about our Eagles is reason enough to own one.  Look at all the joy we bring to others, or to us when confusion sets in.

I have noticed two interesting things about AMC Eagles in recent years. I'm not saying these are exclusive to this brand/line of cars, because I'm sure there may be a few other oddballs out there, but it does seem rather unique, at least in comparison to the vast majority of run of the mill out there. Anyway, they are:

1) I have heard so many comments from previous Eagle owners that it was the one vehicle they wished they'd never sold or otherwise gotten rid of. (in otherwords, they loved it when they had it and would still love to have it)

2) When you're looking for Eagles for sale, it is fairly common to find one that the owner has another one or two...sometimes selling all or both, or keeping one, or whatnot. One just isn't enough.

I don't see this in a lot of other vehicle brands or models out there. And though it may not be entirely exclusive, it does seem rather unique overall, and also emphasizes that AMC really had something with these cars.

People who truly like AMC cars, not just Eagles seem to have a need for more than one.

I bought my Christmas Tree this year....put it on top of the Eagle, and I had a lady take a pic of the Eagle with the tree on top with her camera phone.   Cool

Now that I had to retire my '84 Eagle wagon last summer that I drove daily for 20 years, I miss having people come up to me asking about it. Most comments were good about it, but I remember one that I was really shocked on! While at the gas station about two years ago, the lady next to me pumping gas said, gee your car must be a "New Car" as I have never seen one like that before! I told her it was 24 years old, and I just try to keep it looking good, but it does have some rust. Plus it was at night, so it was hard to see the rust spots. And yes, it was the rust that did my Eagle in last summer with the lower control arm rusting off, and the shock tower folding in. Many of it parts are already living on my sons SX/4, and others on my garage shelf for other spares for him.

I think it could be that our first Eagles are never quite the exact one we want. Rather than just trading, we buy another. For example, what I really want is an SX/4. But I've got a wagon. Now, if in 6 months or so, I come across an SX/4 in a condition where I'm willing to buy. . . I will seriously consider doing it. . . and add it to the list of cars that I pretend not to own when my parents come over.

Part of why we drive Eagles are for the reactions we get. Mostly for our own pleasure, obviously, but it's nice to have people comment. I notice that remarks are in one of two camps. There's the "I used to own an Eagle, I love Eagles, I've always wanted an Eagle, I haven't seen one of those in years!" camp, and there's the "What the bleep is that, that's a cool antique car, what year is that, is that a Dodge?" group.  I tend to be approached by the former more than the latter, but I'd think it's safe to say the majority of people fall into the second group.

My most recent reaction was last night outside the liquor store waiting for my friend; a drunk who drove to pick up more beer knocked on my window until I rolled it down and was almost literally drooling over the car, exclaiming that his neighbour is a 75 year old woman who has 3 Eagles and still pulls parts off and fixes them up herself. Like many of the Eagle fanboys I come across, this gentleman was rather condescending - telling me about the car as if I must have thought it was a Cavalier....Look buddy, I wouldn't be driving a car manufactured the year I was born if I didn't KNOW how spectacular my car is.

I was walking out of the parts store the other day after getting some parts for the IH and a "women", I use the term loosely, came walking in and said real loud to everyone, "You need to put some M F ing 24's on that Eagle". I kept walking towards the door as she was trying to find out who owned it. For those not in the loop she meant 24" wheels.

yeah, I've had that happen, in rite aid, some of the potheads (I hate potheads, that is all we get in at night, potheads and ugly hookers)
asked me if I was lifted my car for big rims, I said, no, I'm happy with my 15s, though I'd like to get 16"s some day, then they still tried to convince me to put big rims on them (wagon wheels as I call them)

The acting in this movie is amazing. This is a real scary movie, because there could be somebody so crazy as to actually do this. Seriously, I think this may be Robert DeNiro's best role.
